I'd definitely LOVE (being a geologist) to do the boulder field trail at Hickory Run State Park, an hour drive from the house. The problem is it's an hour drive from the house, especially if the roads aren't so great (it was a winding road we went down last year). This means we'd need to leave early (I'm thinking 9am) to get enough daylight to do the trail.
The trail is also more difficult than the easy one we went on last year. Alternatively we may be able to find a driving road that goes directly to the field. I will look into this.
Are people interested in the general idea of a hike somewhere, even if it is at a closer park?

Kurt,
Paul and I will meet you there. So long as we know where we're meeting and what time, we'll be there to do our hike and boulder exploration etc, then all head over to the house together when we're done! :)
I think the more intense hike with less driving is better, but let's see if we get any other response.

Awesome Eve! So that's three people interested so far… who else is in?
So since Hickory Run is so much farther than last year, would people be interested in a closer park? Promised Land State Park is only about 7 miles from the house (plus driving around the park). It advertises 50 miles of hiking trails, including a loop around a conservation island, a glacial lake, and a waterfall loop. I put a link to it on the main 2011 page.
I'm just thinking that a lot of people seem to be arriving either early Saturday or late Friday, and sleep time will be at a premium! This should get us at least an hour's worth of sleep additional. What do people think?
