Definitely interested! Maybe can also do the trip to the train museum at the same time. That way we can use our gear to climb trains ;)

Rick has suggested getting people together to go rock climbing at an indoor facility in Wilkes-Barre. Here is the link for more information: http://www.wbcg.net/menu.htm
If you're interested, feel free to start the discussion here.
As we usually do, we'll have a lot of food left over, both perishable and non-perishable. So if possible, bring some food containers and/or a cooler to take leftovers home.
If you don't have a long drive back, consider taking leftover orange juice and/or milk back home. (Kurt, I know that's usually your domain, but I thought I'd remind the others :-))
So it looks like the weather will be cold throughout (highs in the mid 30s all weekend), but there's only a 30% chance of snow on Saturday and looks clear on Sunday. I doubt there will be much snow already on the ground yet. I'm thinking as long as we bundle up we should be ok to do the non-hiking driving option! Will know more in a few days!
Bring Kurt's shoes!! :-P
I'm up for it depending on the weather and what time we leave!
Depending on how I'm feeling, I am game!
I think that's the way we've done it in the past, I'd be fine with doing that too.
Who wants to go do the Boulder Field at Hickory Run St Park? We're actually closer to it this year. It's either a 13-mile drive or a 3-mile drive with a fairly rough 3.5-mile hike (each way)
Awesome! Wow, might we actually be organized this year?? ;)
Here's the URL!
Hey guys,
As you know, for years we have struggled with how to fairly split expenses for MLK Weekend (with some people buying a large amount of food and drink, etc.). My roommates and I use this really cool web application called Splitwise for our monthy expenses. It allows you to split costs evenly or even among a subgroup of people. We then figure out who owes money or who is owed money and then the $ amount is added or subtracted from the amount of rent we pay. I think this could work for us, but I will have to check it out. Of course, there are also other web apps besides Splitwise that could work. If you know of a better way/site, let me know!

Bring your own linens!! (Pillows, sheets, blankets, towels)
This was posted by someone on the wiki:
Most ppl seem to be arriving late. Perhaps we should just be on our own for dinner Fri?
My response:
Sounds good to me. Depending on what time I arrive, I would be willing to get some takeout with whomever is already there.
Sounds good!
For my wafflemaker special on Saturday, it's easy enough to make your own. Since I was hoping to go for an extended hike that late morning/afternoon, what I was thinking of doing was making up a few different waffle mix batches (enough for everyone to get one with a few extra) and cooking up one batch of waffles in the morning and refrigerating the other bowls of waffle mix for people to make whenever they want. It's extremely easy to use and fairly easy to clean. What do people think?
Should we set approximate meal times to let people know when to gather? Unless it's a stew, most meals are best freshly cooked. The cooks and the guests should have some idea of what to expect.
I think as a loose rule:
10 am for breakfast
2 pm for lunch
8 pm for dinner
I just pulled these out of my head so further comment is desired.
there was a ton of stuff left over last time, so it may be a good idea to cut down, considering that all the main meals are going to be cooked for us.
Awesome Eve! So that's three people interested so far… who else is in?
So since Hickory Run is so much farther than last year, would people be interested in a closer park? Promised Land State Park is only about 7 miles from the house (plus driving around the park). It advertises 50 miles of hiking trails, including a loop around a conservation island, a glacial lake, and a waterfall loop. I put a link to it on the main 2011 page.
I'm just thinking that a lot of people seem to be arriving either early Saturday or late Friday, and sleep time will be at a premium! This should get us at least an hour's worth of sleep additional. What do people think?
oh my gosh Kurt that sounds soooo goood and peanut butter you know is always a hit with me! The other flavours u mentioned all also sound good!
